Taekwondo team kicks their way to second place at Brown
The MIT Sport Taekwondo Team ended a fantastic season on a high note at Brown University, bringing home a second place trophy in Division I of the Eastern Collegiate Taekwondo Conference on Sunday, November 19.
MIT athletes finishing semester by smashing records and placing top in nation
Men's and women's indoor track and field sent five students to compete in the Boston University Season Opener Dec. 2. Marissa McPhillips ’20 finished the 3,000 meter with a number two time in the country with a time of 9:51.25. Katie Bacher ’20 finished with a time of 10:09.18 making her the fifth fastest in the country in the 3K. Josh Rosenkranz ’19 and David Walter ’18 both competed in the 5,000 meter and finished with times putting them in the top 10 nationally.

Samarth Mohan – a rising star in MIT Cricket Club
Samarth Mohan ’16, recalls playing ‘gully cricket’ – a popular form of ad hoc cricket played in streets – growing up in India. Three were named to the 2017 Academic All-America Division III Baseball Team, including Austin Filiere '18, who extended his on-base streak to 64 games, a NEWMAC record.

MIT wins spring 2017 International Karate Shotokan Cup
The MIT Shotokan Karate club hosted its first Shotokan cup with the Harvard Shotokan Karate club this past weekend on Saturday Apr. 22, 2017. Participants came from MIT, Harvard, BU, Tufts, UMass Dartmouth, Cornell, UConn, and the University of Toronto. With consistently strong performance across many of the divisions, the MIT Shotokan Karate club was able to secure a win.

Reaching for the SumMIT
This past weekend, the MIT Outing Club hosted SumMIT (ΣMIT), its annual bouldering competition, at the MIT climbing wall in Walker Memorial. There were 75 competitors across the recreational, intermediate, and advanced men’s and women’s divisions. The competition was run in a red point format, where competitors climbed for two hours and were ranked based on the cumulative points of their top four climbs.
MIT swim and dive team breaks 12 NEWMAC records at NCAA DIII Championships
The MIT Swim and Dive Men’s and Women’s teams finished eighth and fifth respectively at the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championships held in Shenandoah, Texas last week, with the women’s team finishing in the highest place ever in program history.
