MIT delivers Babson its first NEWMAC regular-season loss since 2015
Babson women’s field hockey had not lost a NEWMAC regular-season game since 2015 until Tuesday night at Jack Barry Field, when Senior Audrey Oh rebounded a deflected shot on goal by teammate Janie Thomas ’27, slipping past Babson’s defense to put the Engineers up 1-0.
The Babson Beavers tried to respond late in the game, taking four shots on MIT goalie Alexa Ninos ’29 in the fourth quarter, but were unsuccessful, leaving the Engineers up 1-0.
MIT field hockey has had a great season thus far since welcoming a new head coach, Megan Caveny, in April 2026. Caveny is a Vassar College alumna (also an NCAA DIII member), where she was team captain during her collegiate field hockey career. In addition to her on-field experience, she brings coaching experience as associate head coach at Tufts University during their run as the 2024 National Runner-Up and 2025 National Champion.
The Engineers moved to 5-0 in conference play after a 2-0 win over NEWMAC opponent Salve Regina on Saturday, Oct. 10. The Engineers remain the only undefeated team in the NEWMAC this season, with four more conference games to play against Wheaton College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Smith College, and Wellesley College later this month.
